The mixed B team played the final of the knock out handicap cup on 3 May, away at John of Gaunt School in Trowbridge. The team were missing a player, but many thanks to Holly for the stand in!
The team had a 50 point deficit to catch up over 18 games, and therefore needed to win 21-18 on average. The team stepped up to the challenge, with only one game dropped over the course of the night. The final score was 340 - 299. Many thanks to Phoenix B for some great games! 8 April: Mixed C were away against Phoenix C. Our team were heading out a lady short, and the opponents were two men short. An anti-climactic 5-2 win in their final match of the season
12 April: The Doubles A were away to Corsham A in their final match of the season, which would also decide the title between the two teams. The team were missing three of their regulars, but luckily subs were found and the team came away with an 8-1 after several close three enders. This was enough to see the team finish at the top of division 1. In other news, the Tony Winslow and Gillian Scott Wiltshire inter district tournaments were held on 3 April and 10 April. Chippenham 23 showed it's strength within the mid wilts area by making up nine of the 16 players in the Tony Winslow team, which saw off the teams from Swindon and Salisbury districts with ease. We also had two players from Chippenham 23 playing in the Gillian Scott, and a Chippenham 23 player volunteering as non-playing captain. Mid Wilts placed second in the Gillian Scott after being narrowly beaten 27-21 by Swindon. The matches we have remaining are: Three county league matches against Swindon, Laverstock and Stratton Polska Mixed A vs Corsham B - however the mixed A have already won the title! Mixed B vs Phoenix B in the final of the knockout handicap cup - the B team will look to avenge the A team here who were knocked out by Phoenix B in the semi final, losing 257 - 248! 27 March: Mixed B played away against Corsham A. Some close games were played but the B team could not get anything over the line and suffered a 9-0 defeat.
28 March: Doubles B played their final match of the season away to Freshford. Unfortunately there was some last minute sickness and a the final score was a 7-2 loss. 29 March: The County League team travelled south to play against Salisbury. With both sides boasting county 1st team players it was a a tough match for all. Chippenham 23 dominated in the ladies doubles and brought home a 6-3 win. 30 March: Doubles A were home to Phoenix A. Sadly the opposition could only muster one pair so it was a sure 9-0 win for the A team! 30 March: Doubles C were away to Westbury White Horse. Unfortunately we were only able to send two pairs, but the team managed to pick up a point. Final score 8-1 loss. The Wilson Lee final was played at Sheldon School between Chippenham 23 and Swindon. Swindon took the first men's, while Chippenham took the first ladies. For the second matches, this was reversed, putting the score at 2-2.
The final men's and ladies were both won by Chippenham 23, giving a score of 4-2 going into the mixed. The final score was a 6-3 win for Chippenham 23 who took home the shield. Well done to (L to R) Ed, Holly, Jack, Lauren, Rich and Bex! Many thanks to Swindon for a brilliant final with some epic games to watch! 2 March: Doubles A lost their first match of the season with a 7-2 score line against Frome A
Doubles C also played and took a 7-2 win over Phoenix B 4 March: Doubles B played away against Phoenix A and have hopefully secured a mid table position with another 7-2 win 7 March: Mixed A were away to Freshford. Unfortunately one of Freshford's men was injured during the match. The final score was a 9-0 win for the A. Only two points needed in their final match to secure top of the table! 9 March: Mixed B were home to Phoenix A. The match included some long games and the final mixed was not concluded. The B team took a 5-3 win. Mixed C were on court as well against Warminster School Smashers and achieved a 6-3 win! 11 March: Doubles B played away to Frome. Unfortunately they were only able to raise two pairs, but managed to steal a point. Final score, 8-1 loss. 16 March: Doubles A played at home against Corsham B and took a 9-0 victory taking just 90 minutes! 20 March: Doubles C at home vs top of the division Vectors A. Again, only two pairs were sent, but the team picked up a point, 8-1 loss. 23 March: Mixed C played at home against Vectors A. After a number of close ends, the final score was a 6-3 loss. |
