On 27 April, the end of season handicap doubles tournament took place. With handicaps ranging from -8 to +9 per game, it was a tough night for Chippenham 23 pairs. Despite this, another all Chippenham 23 final took place with Steve Hulbert/Joe Hulbert facing off against Jack Agnew/Rich Grainger. Steve and Joe had a four point advantage and managed to clinch the final in two games!
This means we have had Chippenham 23 winners in all three end of season tournaments, with runners up from our club in two of them too! The Mid Wilts Mixed doubles handicap tournament took place on 20 April, with three pairs entered from Chippenham 23. I am please to report that it was an all Chippenham 23 final (despite both the pairs being on the most detrimental handicap). Well done to Bex and Rich who ran out winners, and to runners up Steve and Claire.
8 April: Mixed C were away against Phoenix C. Our team were heading out a lady short, and the opponents were two men short. An anti-climactic 5-2 win in their final match of the season
12 April: The Doubles A were away to Corsham A in their final match of the season, which would also decide the title between the two teams. The team were missing three of their regulars, but luckily subs were found and the team came away with an 8-1 after several close three enders. This was enough to see the team finish at the top of division 1. In other news, the Tony Winslow and Gillian Scott Wiltshire inter district tournaments were held on 3 April and 10 April. Chippenham 23 showed it's strength within the mid wilts area by making up nine of the 16 players in the Tony Winslow team, which saw off the teams from Swindon and Salisbury districts with ease. We also had two players from Chippenham 23 playing in the Gillian Scott, and a Chippenham 23 player volunteering as non-playing captain. Mid Wilts placed second in the Gillian Scott after being narrowly beaten 27-21 by Swindon. The matches we have remaining are: Three county league matches against Swindon, Laverstock and Stratton Polska Mixed A vs Corsham B - however the mixed A have already won the title! Mixed B vs Phoenix B in the final of the knockout handicap cup - the B team will look to avenge the A team here who were knocked out by Phoenix B in the semi final, losing 257 - 248! 27 March: Mixed B played away against Corsham A. Some close games were played but the B team could not get anything over the line and suffered a 9-0 defeat.
28 March: Doubles B played their final match of the season away to Freshford. Unfortunately there was some last minute sickness and a the final score was a 7-2 loss. 29 March: The County League team travelled south to play against Salisbury. With both sides boasting county 1st team players it was a a tough match for all. Chippenham 23 dominated in the ladies doubles and brought home a 6-3 win. 30 March: Doubles A were home to Phoenix A. Sadly the opposition could only muster one pair so it was a sure 9-0 win for the A team! 30 March: Doubles C were away to Westbury White Horse. Unfortunately we were only able to send two pairs, but the team managed to pick up a point. Final score 8-1 loss. |
